Prof.
Alberto Boffi MD graduated in 1986 at Rome “Sapienza” and he is currently
Full Professor of Molecular Biology, Department of Biochemistry in Rome,
“Sapienza”.
He is an expert in biochemistry and protein engineering, comprising
molecular biology and biophysical technologies.
Since 2018 he was
Principal investigator at Crest Optics in several national and
international research projects in the field of Alzheimer diagnostics
concerning the detection of Tau protein aggregates by fluorescence and
luminescence methods, comprising the discovery and synthesis of novel
fluorescent molecules, now IP of D-tails.
Associate Professor of Physiology at Sapienza Università di Roma she is
a biophysicist with a strong background in electrophysiology and imaging. Her research in the field of neurophysiology has been focused on
synaptic transmission and on glia to neuron communication in the brain and in
the retina. Her background education in physics made her able to play a key
role in the development of multidisciplinary projects, in collaboration
with engineers, medical doctors, biologists and SME, producing several
publications. In the last years, her research interests are focusing on the
impact of protein aggregation and neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative and
neurodevelopmental pathologies with multidisciplinary approaches
(electrophysiology, imaging, molecular and cellular biology, bio-fabrication). Her research team hosts about 3 PostDoc and 4 PhD from different
disciplines (Biologists, Biotechnologists, Physicists).

PhD
in materials
science.
He
is experimental Physicist with a strong
background in optics,
photonics, optical
fibers, micro optics, light diffusion, imaging and microscopy. He designed and
realized more than 10 different experimental setups from scratch including super resolution
microscopes, direct laser writing nano-printers, etc. He published 39 peer reviewed papers, including very high impact publications
like Nature
Photonics,
Nature Communications, PNAS and Physical Review letters. His super resolution
Technique (Scattering Assisted Imaging) has been patented worldwide.
He has a very good success rate in fund rising
with 3 personal research projects (LOCALSCENT, LOCALITS, and SELFI)
financed.
